As many of you know, I canceled Lydia’s physical therapist this summer and started her on a program at Northwest Neurodevelopmental training center. Of course this move made her therapists and other well meaning people uncomfortable and skeptical. They thought it was another of my “hippie” ideas. However, I knew this was the right move for Lydia. I don’t want her to “get by” I want her to thrive. Rather then attempt to treat the symptoms of her hypoxic episode I want to get the cause of the problem. A school system that tells me to put my daughter in special ed, put her on a state waiver program, and stick her in a wheelchair is not one that I’ m going along with. Despite the outside disagreements Chris and I followed our hearts (and sound medical study) and quit her PT (physical therapy). Since starting her program at NWND Lydia has made lots of progress. Her former PT from the school system came out to evaluate her for her annual review. She was amazed at Lydia’s progress. She said and I quote “Whatever you are doing keep doing it. It’s obviously working!”. Yes, she was impressed with Lydia’s progress. In just a couple of months Lydia progressed “3 months” ahead of where she had been since last winter in her skill level. Even her talking and her eyes working together more often were noted with shock! ![]()
Ha! I really wanted to say “I told you so!” but my good manners prevented me from doing so. Go Lydia!!!!!
