Chris wrote a post at our Sarah’s Siganture Blog about Bella’s comment regarding white balance. This reminded me of a couple other scenarios that have occurred lately.

Upon leaving the house in the early morning Bella looks at the sky as the sun is rising and remarks
“This would be excellent lighting for wedding photos”.

So true!

Shortly before Clare’s second birthday I was kicking back reading the wedding issue of Rangefinder (kindly given to me by Joey and Laura of Life Art Photographs when they went to WPPI this past year) Clare nonchalantly walks up to me, takes my magazine from my hand and replaces it with a Board book about baby animals. She then proceeds to walk into the bathroom, sit down on her potty chair and “read” Rangefnder. As she turns pages she makes little remarks like “ohhhhh” and “pretty”. She looked at the entire issue before she found the magazine After Capture and proceeds to read. Before finishing her business she also perused the massive B&H catalog saying things like “Oh, picture. Mommy’s camera”.

I wonder where she learns these things?

Poop or chocolate

Clare walks into the room covered in something brown. I ask her what it is and she replies in a wistful voice “shhhhacat”

ah. chocolate. good.

Sadly, I wasn’t so lucky 2 days ago. While eating dinner Clare turns to face me. While holding a hot dog in her right hand she holds out her left hands and says “Poop, mama!”.
Um. Ew. This from the girl who is afraid to pick up dirt.

It shouldn’t be funny…

Clare and Lydia were fighting over a container of bubbles. Clare bit Lydia’s thumb. Between hysterical sobs Lydia cries “Clare ate me!”.

Saturday Morning Fun

This morning carter, Bella and I sneaked out of the house at 8 AM leaving Chris and the babies asleep. We headed over to the Farmer’s Market. Amazingly our favorite parking spot was still open (I’m not telling you where our secret spot is because you might steal it next week) so we didn’t have to walk far. First stop was our favorite booth- Soder Apiaries (I can’t find a website but here’s a map to their market location) to pick up honey and some veggies. The favorite thing to do is the children’s activity. Today’s activity was planting corn and soy beans to take home and (in conjunction with the celebrasian festival) finding out your name in Chinese. We also picked up a delicious meal at Dos Rios for only $5 and the kids purchased Dutch letters. After a relaxing picnic we purchased some herbs for our garden, some tasty asparagus & fresh lettuce & headed over to the Green Living Expo. Amazingly, we were too early for it (shocking, I know!) & decided go over to the Cathedral for awhile. The kids and I spent our time looking at all the stained glass windows, the furniture used at Pope John Paul 2’s 1979 visit, architecture & statues. It was fun reminiscing about the years St. Ambrose was my home parish as a little girl. After my trip down memory lane the Naturally Green Expo was open. The kids talked me into buying balloon animals (how is that Green Living? I don’t know) and buying Clare a birthday present. I bought an adorable pair of handmade shoes for a baby gift from Sarah, owner of Wallypop. I also got to visit with Shanen Ebersole from Ebersole Cattle Company as well as Abby & Mama P from Simply Food, Nothing Extra. I am blessed to call these women friends and excited to spend this coming Wednesday cooking freezer meals together. Upon arriving home I ate my Sea salted almonds in dark chocolate bar and Chris came home from the store with some lovely roses for me. What a happy Saturday! Now I am off to bake Clare’s birthday cake. How can she possible be 2 already?

Spring time!

Even though it was unseasonably warm last week I felt it was long overdue. I’m glad we are done with the winter weather for awhile. And I hope you were able to sneak in a few moments outdoors to enjoy the warmth of the sun and the nice cool breeze that came through this evening. If there is one thing I love during the early spring, it’s sleeping with the windows open and letting that cool night air into the house.

Since the weather has warmed we have been to the park many times. Clare as now discovered how much she loves the play ground. She can go down the slide all by herself. Right before we left she took great pleasure in burying her snack in the sand. If you look carefully you can see her wasting a delicious beef stick from the Ebersole Cattle Company. If I had known she was going to bury it I totally would have eaten it myself.

Canstruction

Chris’ company invaded the Science Center of Iowa again for its annual Canstruction event. Companies and schools gather for a good cause to not only donate tons(literally) of canned good items – but to also design something out of the collection. With over $1700 worth of canned goods we aimed to build…the Terminator. It was fun and we ended up being awarded “Best Use of Labels”. We had a good time!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a large collection of Pork and Beans in one spot before.

Carter found a shirt I had lost in his drawer. He excitedly exclaimed “Mom, I saw this shirt in my drawer. It was Huge! I thought to myself ‘this is gigantic- it has got to be mom’s’”.

Valley Forge in 60 minutes or less

While I was in Philadelphia in January for Tony Hoffer’s workshop my hotel was just minutes away from Valley Forge. I got up early and headed out to the National Park at first light. It was freezing and overcast but I did not let that stop me. I estimated I had 60 minutes to spend there before heading back to the airport to catch my plane home. I rushed around like a crazy person not even having time to read many of the informational signs (I took pictures of them to read later). It was worth it though as it was beautiful. I’m happy to have the pictures to show the kids as I know they would have loved to have been there (assuming we would have stayed longer than 60 minutes, of course). I edited these pictures on the plane ride home assuming that I would post them while I waited for my connecting flight. Sadly, the Memphis airport does not have free internet. Who knew? So, 2 months later I finally remembered. Better late than never, right?
